Mother language week

We celebrated Mother Language week with some great ideas from our student team.  Each morning in place of our regular karakia in Te Reo Maori, a teacher aide had been invited to greet the school and say a karakia in her own mother tongue.   At Rosebank we are rich with the many different languages spoken.  This year we had Afrikaans, Samoan, Maori, Niuean and Sinhalese.

Student volunteers from across the school were rostered to read to a class during SSR time. They received positive praise and felt really good even though they were nervous about reading to the classes.  This year we had Samoan, Tongan and Maori readers, next year we hope to have even more.
